I send my deepest gratitude to all of you who support the ministry of relief work for Cambodian children in crisis even in a situation where everyone in the world is experiencing the same difficulties due to the Covid-19. We pray that our heavenly Father would bless you and your families who have become channels of love so that the children of the slums and the homeless who have been left out without food and medical support for a long period of time due to coronavirus could escape from hunger.
In mid-April, the Cambodian government implemented a strong lockdown to contain the rapidly increasing spread of the coronavirus. As a result, the functions of the government were paralyzed, and the right to live of the economically disadvantaged classes in rural areas as well as cities collapsed. With no food available, Cambodians are facing a crisis caused by hunger which seems to be more serious than coronavirus. The Cambodian government has partially lifted the lockdown order in order to relieve the political purden as the economic damage and people’s dissatisfaction have increased due to the extreme blockade of the capital area. However, access to the Red Zone area, where the number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing, is still restricted, and other areas can only be moved within the area with the mayor’s permission. The residents of the Red Zone, who have been isolated for a long time without food and medical assistance, are experiencing extreme hardship. An international human rights group urged the UN for help, saying that even the basic rights of residents, such as food, clothing, and shelter, have been destroyed by the Cambodian government’s extreme blockade. It is analyzed that the Cambodian government’s extreme lockdown measures are to avoid the worst corona crisis, as the corona re-spreading in Southeast Asian countries is getting worse.
Mobile Drop In Center
In cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Social Welfare and Children’s Welfare, the Mobile Drip In Center ministry team that cares for street children were able to go for a special visit to urban slums where access has been restricted, and provide food and comfort to the homeless children. HIS Child has requested the Ministry of Social Welfare for a permission to continue to visit these children whom the team have not been able to meet at all in the past 17 months due to Covid-19.
Prayer Requests:
1. May the Mobile Drip In Center ministry team continue to safely reach children and provide them with the minimum amount of food they can eat to escape from hunger, which is more frightening than the coronavirus at the moment. And for them to experience the love of the Lord who cares for the children on the street despite these barren circumstances.
2. Pray that the financial needs could be met so that the ministry could continue to provide basic food and necessities to children in disadvantaged streets.
3. Please pray that our ministry team would continue to learn and reflect the heart of our God who values the soul of each single person.
